Rona
Grey skies peek behind deep, confusing loss, profound
Lives are lost yet connections are found
As we pray for our feet to touch the outside ground
Some seniors are worried about never walking the stage
Others never walking the earth
And the sun is still shining
Giving us life
Yet the voices are still shouting
With hate, fear, and strife
He arrives, unwanted, with lies at my door
While you hide there, ashamed, with eyes on the floor
Evading, it’s frustrating, my screams go unheard
We struggle to breathe as time bounds forward, absurd
Hell we just struggle to breathe
And the sun is still shining
For pain’s current is so strong it cannot always stay
And dreams grow from soil of the trees burned away
If we promise to keep the lessons we’ve learned
And the smiles that we’ve earned
Then these memories we’ll take
When the world jolts awake
For we are at a new beginning
Even as the nervous grey peeks through the fog
Seeing the humanity dense in the smog
Because even when we cannot see it
The sun is still shining
